Isaiah 8:11 For the LORD spoke thus to me with his strong hand upon me, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying ...
Two things to note from this verse as we start a short series at this point in Isaiah chapter 8. Firstly, that The Lord's strong hand was on Isaiah as He spoke to him. Isaiah didn't have to wonder whether the Lord has spoken to him or not; he knew that He had. There was and, I suggest, still is no doubt or confusion about whether the Lord speaks to His people, or that anyone so addressed is unaware or uncertain of this having happened.
Secondly, the content of the communication was perfectly clear: do not walk in the way - that is, do not do what they do, think what they think, share their attitudes or standards - of the people of his generation. This too is a continuing theme as the Lord calls His people in our times to be different and distinct from the world about them.
Have you heard this warning and are you sure that the Lord has spoken to you?
