Mark 12:35 And as Jesus taught in the temple, He said, "How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?"
Good question! How can the scribes say that? Because the Psalmist knew - or, at least, understood in his spirit - more than the simple words let on. We have to take the balance of Scripture to understand that the Messiah was a physical descendant of David, so that He has fulfilled (and yet will, of course) the prophecies of the Davidic line ruling for ever and yet is the Son of God so that He is infinitely greater than David at the same time.
