Jeremiah 8:22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored? Walter Brueggemann waxes lyrical (in his books, "The Prophetic Imagination" and "The Hopeful Imagination") about an answer to this question. He concludes that the wound is terminal; it isn't being healed because it cannot be healed. Death, mourning and then rebirth (that is, resurrection in Messiah) are the only way forward.
