Jeremiah 16:9 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will silence in this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.
Words of huge solemnity, spoken - it is true - to a particular people at a particular time in history. And they were fulfilled to the last detail. But is the Holy Spirit quickening these words again in our day? Jesus warned us that the time of His return would be like the days of Noah, with people feasting and marrying right up until the moment. As we respond to our world and its troubles by preparing for Jesus' soon return and the days of the tribulation which will precede it, how can we crystalise the urgency of these times to reach people with the message of the gospel and invite them to accept God's offer for them to join the kingdom now?
