Mark 15:39 And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"
The Delitzsch Gospels (in Hebrew) have this that Jesus "breathed out His soul", which is a very graphic picture. In His death, suddenly, the centurion - a man no doubt hardened by having seen and administered many crucifixions - knew that there was something different about Jesus. This man didn't just die, He wasn't just crucified; He chose to give up His life.
