Luke 1:73 ... the oath that He swore to our father Abraham
Even though God's word is good enough, He swore an oath to Abraham that He would remember His promises and would bless Abraham's physical descendants with the physical land of Israel. He did that so that Abraham could trust in that oath and so trust in God.
Hebrews 6:17-18 In the same way God, desiring even more to show to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, interposed with an oath, in order that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have strong encouragement, we who have fled for refuge in laying hold of the hope set before us.
He didn't do this for His own benefit, to make sure that He held Himself up to the mark, but for our benefit that we might be encouraged by the oath and the promise together, both unchangeable.
