Luke 1:78-79 ... because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
In the last closing words of his prophetic speech, Zechariah addresses the motivation for the outreach both of God and ourselves when we speak in His name. It is because of His tender mercy. We don't long to set things right, to see the wicked punished or ourselves vindicated. We speak because of God's mercy that compells us to share what we have and know with others who do not.
2 Corinthians 5:19 God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation
That reconciliation process is still going on and so
2 Corinthians 5:20 therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were entreating through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
We reach out to people - to our family, friends and neighbours - with God's message so that He may show mercy on them and guide their feet into the ways of peace: peace with Him, peace with us, peace with themselves and peace with creation. We all need that peace and we find ours as we share it with others.
