Jeremiah 26:7 The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.
This text records that Jeremiah was faithful in carrying out his instructions. Everyone heard: the priests, those in charge of the temple, the religious cult, the liturgy and the sacrifices; the prophets, those supposedly in charge of speaking out the Lord's word; and all the peeople, everyone who came in and out of the Lord's house. How long did it take Jeremiah? The text doesn't tell us, but this isn't the job of just an hour or so; this required significant investment of time and persistence against those who would try to move him on or silence him.
If we are to heard in this busy and noisy world, against vested interests and positions of privilege, we must be prepared not only to raise our vocies and speak out the words we have been given, but to overcome attempts to silence or muzzle the word of the Lord. This is a challenge in the public square of today, but the Lord's word and calling remain sure and clear. Jeremiah succeeded; will you?
