Luke 4:22 And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him.
Notice the effect that the reading had. Everyone was looking at him. I'm sure you have noticed the usual response in congregation after a reading. A few fidgets, people looking out of the window and wondering what's coming next, fumbling with the hymn books. But is the Bible really read with conviction, with adequate preparation, or has someone only just picked the reading up when they arrived for the meeting and is now reading it cold?
If we are are going to see people taking notice of the Bible, God's Word, then we we have to take it seriously too. We have to prepare for reading, pray before we read, understand what the passage is saying, read with conviction and - if appropriate - employ dramatisation or other devices to make sure that it is heard.
