Jeremiah 29:7 But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.
Who needs to hear this verse today? Perhaps all of us, for it is a constant teaching among believers that we are all in exile, just waiting to go home. Is there a reluctance to get involved in life around us and to engage with the welfare - in the Hebrew text, 'peace' - of the city and the people where we dwell. Might that be one of the reasons why so few people seem to have any interest in the gospel these days: they sense our detachment and couldn't-care-less-about-you attitude? How about actually getting involved in your communities, towns and cities to bless them and find peace together?
