Luke 6:12

Luke 6:12 In these days He went out to the mountain to pray, and all night He continued in prayer to God.

This is Jesus, just before He calls/chooses His twelve disciples, seeking the Father's guidance and approval. If Jesus found this necessary, how can we do less: we should always pray over and through big decisions.

More, however, comes form this verse. Notice two things about how Jesus prayed. First, He prayed all night. Second, He went away from other people. "All night" may be more that you can physically do; it may be more that necessary. We should learn that prayer needs to be for as long as it takes. Sometimes, it is good to prayer with others; at other times, we just have to go away and do it by ourselves - free from distractions, other people's opinions and expectations. Just you and God.
