Jeremiah 31:35

Jeremiah 31:35 Thus says the LORD, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar -- the LORD of hosts is His name:

The Lord is getting ready to say something important. How do we know? Because He invokes heaven and earth, the fixed order of creation, as His witnesses. They were the first created things that were around so saw all the rest of the creation take place; they have been around since almost the very beginning. Moses too calls on heaven and earth to witness when he tells the Israelites that he has set the choice of life and death before them.

Notice too that the order of the moon and stars is fixed; it is not variable, it does not change. We can calculate the times of sunset, moon-rise and the positions of all the heavenly bodies at any past date since creation and onto any date in the future. Since the timings of the tides are dependent on the moon, they too are fixed - which is not to say that storms and other severe weather may not create occasionally high or low tides, clearly they do - but that the udnerlying mechanism remains fixed and constant. The laws of nature cannot be overturend.
