Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.
These promises accompany the instructions against judging. Some might try to use this verse as a means of encouraging financial contributions of churches or ministries - and although it may be true that God will bless you mightily as you give into His kingdom, that is not what this verse is about.
This verse is about living generously in every way, whether in time, gifts, finances, hospitality, listening, and particularly in relationships. If we cultivate lives of generosity, God will respond by blessing us. This certainly isn't to be used as a spiritual lever to try to get financial blessing by making 'seed' donations to churhes and ministries, particularly on-line and of whom we might never have heard before. It also isn't a guarantee of return or replacment of what we give in the same kind or way.
It is about knowing God's blessing as we live generously towards other people, knowing that God will cause His generosity to overflow towards us in joy, peace and the ability to share and enjoy that sharing.
