Luke 7:8 For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come,' and he comes; and to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it.
This is the crux of the centurion's message. This is why he can believe that Jesus doesn't need to come to his house, that He only has to say a word and the healing will take place. He recognises Jesus' authority. He may not know exactly who He is, or how the theology works out. But He does know who he is and from his position of authority, he can clearly see Jesus' authority and position. If I can tell people what to do, then You certainly can, he reasons.
Do we recognise the absolute authority that Jesus has? Could we echo the centurion's words?
