Isaiah 1:2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the LORD has spoken: "Children have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against Me."
At the very start of Isaiah's ministry he does something important. What is that? He calls upon the same witnesses as Moses does when confirming the Sinai covenant with the Israelites on the plains of Moab opposite Jericho: he calls heaven and earth as witnesses to what is being said and done.
In this case, Isaiah is calling heaven and earth to witness that Israel - God's chosen people - have rebelled against Him, have failed to keep the covenant. We see something critical from this. Earth and heaven can see what has happened. Nothing the Israelites have done has been in secret; on the contrary, whether they intended it that way or not, it has all been completely visible and public. Jesus warns us of the same thing:
Luke 8:17 For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
How, then should we act today?
