Luke 11:42 But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.
This verse is well known for pointing out that the Pharisees neglected to observe justice and show the love of God. It is much less well known that Jesus confirmed that their tithing practices - about which they were punctillious - were correct. "You were right to do that," He says.
If our righteousness is to exceed that of the Scribes and Pharisees (Matthew 5:20), then we must do better. We must observe God's justice and show His love, but we must also be correct in the smaller things of our walk before Him.
Do you tithe your herbs as well as your income?
