Isaiah 11:1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. This verse starts a short series on the qualities of God's anointed Messiah. Here we see that although much is made of Davidic descent, in fact Messiah will spring from the roots of Jeses. Jesse was referred to as the Bethlehemite and was the father of David. What God is going to do is from the same mould as David was cast, but without David's human faults and frailties. A new shoot, a new start from the same root.
