Luke 13:6

Luke 13:6 And Jesus told this parable: "A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.

A parable is a story, with a limited cast of stereotypical characters that points to a truth or a reality in a way that everyone can understand. What is the reality to which this parable points? Is it that people have fig trees? That is certainly true, some people do. Is it that tree had no fruit? That is also true; some trees do bear fruit every year.

The key truth that starts this parable is that the owner came looking for fruit. He planted and owned the tree for a purpose - bearing fruit - and came to collect on his investment.

What is your purpose? Be ready, Jesus says, because the owner will come to collect on his investment!
