Luke 15:1-2 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."
Jesus drew crowds. He was very popular in many circles. Who is it that comes to hear what He has to say? Those who know that they need Him. Remembers that 'sinners' is a catch-all word used to describe the common people who couldn't keep up with all the religious requirements of the most pious, as well as those people who we might recognise as sinners today. And the religious leaders complained - it wasn't that they didn't recognise the need of the common people, but that Jesus didn't fit their idea of what a religious leader, such as themselves, should do. What do we think of Jesus today?
