Luke 15:21

Luke 15:21 And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

This verse is so significant. It is what might be called a true confession. The son knows that he has completely blown it, lost everything - including perhaps the father's love - and certainly any rights within his own family. It may be rehearsed, and that's okay - sometimes it is better to work out what to say and rehearse it beforehand to make sure you say everything that needs to be said - what matters is that it it is open, truthful and doesn't attempt to hide anything or make excuses. When you offend someone (and we all do, from time to time), is this how you make your confession? When you come to God, is this what you say? This is what He is looking for, and it is this that opens the door to forgiveness.
