Isaiah 28:7 These also reel with wine and stagger with strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed by wine, they stagger with strong drink, they reel in vision, they stumble in giving judgment.
Here is a shocking picture of what happens when a nation becomes dissolute and dissipated. Isaiah was talking to the people of his day who would be only too well aware of the abuse that would be happening behind (and sometimes, not so behind) closed doors among the privileged and elite. It sems that things don't seem to change very much. The elite - although perhaps not in the church - still behave that way; they still drink to excess and behave in other unmentionable ways.
But can we see this happening among religious leaders? Not perhaps at a physical level, but those who become drunk with power, with influence, with their own reputations and consequently neglect the flock in their charge?
