Luke 16:31

Luke 16:31 Abraham said to the rich man, in Hades, 'If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.'"

This is the chilling conclusion to Jesus' story of Dives and Lazarus, the rick man and the poor man who begged at his gate. Both men have died; the rich man has gone the place of torment, the poor man to Abraham's bosom - a synonym for heaven. The rich man begs Abraham to let the poor man go and visit the rich man's family to make sure that thet get their lives right with God and this is Abraham's reply.

In the face of the greatest and unrepeated miracle the world has known, the resurrection of Jesus after His crucifixion on a Roman cross, the world still continues to ignore Him. What can be done? They ignore Moses and the prophets and now even the resurrection is disbelieved and ridiculed. But that is what Jesus predicted in this story.

Nevertheless, let us cry out to God for mercy, that He will yet be merciful to those who don't or won't yet know Him, that they might have a change of heart and make peace with - in bibical language, become reconciled to - God before it is too late and they too find themselves in Hades.

What about the dead that Yeshua preached to according to 1 Peter 3:18-20? Is that preaching not answering the rich man's prayer and fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy in chapter 61
