Isaiah 29:18 In that day the deaf shall hear the words of a book, and out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind shall see.
Isn't that a delightful mixed metaphor? The deaf shall hear the words of a book! As someone reads to them - but they are deaf, so how shall they hear. Oh, cochlear implants, of course - why didn't I think of that. NO! That isn't what Isaiah is talking about at all. In just the same way as the blind shall see - and not because their cataracts have been removed, but by the miracle of healing and the light of God shining - the deaf will hear and have their hearing restored.
There will come a day when those who are blind and deaf to the kingdom of God, who cannot or will not hear and see the gospel - the good news of God's invitation to all to join His kingdom - will realise what is going on and and understand not only the offer before them but what they have to do to accept it. And they will, praise God!
May that time come soon and in our days! And may we see God at work to make that day happen every time we look around.
