Isaiah 40:3 A voice cries: "In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD; make straight in the desert a highway for our God."
Do you hear the voices calling? In Mark's gospel the usual translations alter the sequence of the punction to read: "the voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight'" (Mark 1:3). This tracks John the Baptist, whose ministry took place in the wilderness.
Today the voices are calling in the wilderness because they have been marginalised by society, in some cases even by the church, and pushed out to the edge where they won't disturb people or upset the apple-cart. That makes no difference; the voices are still calling, they are still calling out the same words, the same message; and - by the miracles of God's grace and much to the annoyance of the establishment - they are still clearly audible to the people if they will but listen. And sometimes even if they won't or don't want to hear.
It's very clear: get ready for God. Things have changed; the world is changing before our eyes and the great "Day of the Lord" is coming upon us sooner and more quickly than most people think or believe. It will not be delayed; the time of waiting is nearly over. It is time to get ready, to prepare a highway for God. Are you helping or hindering?
