Luke 21:8-9 And Jesus said, "See that you are not led astray. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am he!' and, 'The time is at hand!' Do not go after them. And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified, for these things must first take place, but the end will not be at once."
Here is Jesus talking about the end times, the days immediately before His return. Many will come - we have seen many of them already - in His name, pretending to be (or even deluding themselves that they are) Him. Some folk have been led astray, but the disciples (that now means us in these days) are warned not to be fooled. Smoke and mirrors are no substitute for the King and High Priest of Israel. Jesus doesn't do card tricks and his kingdom is not built like a house of cards.
But His words are being brought about in our very times. The time really is at hand. But we must not look to men (or women, no gender bias intended), we must continue to look solely to Jesus and worship Him alone. We hear of wars, uprisings, rebellions and armed conflict every day. They are all around us. We hear of tumults (read: panics, conspiracy theories, runs on the market or bank, crises, pandemics, global warming) almost more often if that were possible. Yet Jesus tells us not to be afraid, for these things will happen (read: are happening). Welcome to the end times.
That means that Jesus is coming. Of course, He's been 'coming' ever since He went away. Know it means that the real physical time of His return is almost upon us and we must be ready. Will it be tomorrow or next week? Only God knows that, but it will be soon and we must be ready to welcome Him.
