Luke 22:33-34 Peter said to Him, "Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death." Jesus said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know Me."
This is one of Peter's big moments, where he promises to follow Jesus, to stick with Him right through to the end. Who knows how the story might have been different in the book of Acts if he had, but we know - as Jesus says to him, that he won't follow through.
How many times have you made a rash vow or commitment and then not done what you said you would? It happens to all of us. As I get older, I work really hard not to give commitments that I am not absolutely sure I can keep - and even then I try to avoid them.
We need to think really carefully about what we are saying in following Jesus, so that we don't end up discrediting Him by our own inability or sin. Others see and hear us and judge Him by what they see. That's frightening!
