Isaiah 51:7

Isaiah 51:7 Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is My law; fear not the reproach of man, nor be dismayed at their revilings.

In a third "Listen to Me" call, the Creator of heaven and earth, the Master of the universe, who holds life and death in His hands, encourages those who really understand what righteousness is becasue His law is in their hearts. Implicit in that encouragement is the certainty that those who take a stand for God's righteousness will attract the reproach of men and will be reviled by them. Unregenerate man is in complete rebellion against God; they revile His law, His judgements and His standards; they seek to expurgate any mention of Him or any allusions to an absolute standard from the law of the land, no matter what falsehood and contortions they must perform to do so. But hear God's promise in the very next verse:

Isaiah 51:8 For the moth will eat them up like a garment, and the worm will eat them like wool; but My righteousness will be forever, and My salvation to all generations.

The rebels and their works will simply be eaten up and consumed. They have no permanence, no eternal significance. In the short term they may be annoying and destructive, but in the long game, their posturing and pontificating amount to absolutely nothing. Our God reigns!
