Ecclesiastes 4:1 Again I saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun. And behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had no one to comfort them! On the side of their oppressors there was power, and there was no one to comfort them.
So what are we going to do about it? Multiple cases of oppression are known and widely documented - fast food, fast fashion, sweat-shops, child labour - and chased around the world from one country to the next. Always abused are the orphans and widows, the poor and vulnerable, the disabled and socially excluded, the young and the old - pretty much anyone who can be taken advantage of will be.
Do you look to see where your clothing comes from, where your food is sourced or whether any of the processes are involved in exploitation? Do you even care - is it worth your while? It better had be, for by failing to check, by failing to take responsibility, we are all guilty of complicity in these crimes against humanity.
Isaiah 58:6- Is this not the fast which I choose, to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke? Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into the house; when you see the naked, to cover him; and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light will break out like the dawn, and your recovery will speedily spring forth; and your righteousness will go before you; the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
