John 6:68-69 Simon Peter answered Jesus, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."
Jesus has just asked His disciples if they want to go away and stop following Him as well as everyone else who has just gone. That's a pretty fair question, "What about it?" He asks, "What about you?" Do you want to find another less challenging teacher to follow?
But Simon Peter is very clear. However tough Jesus' teaching might be, no-one else has the words of life that Jesus has. For the twelve (less one), there was nowhere else to go. Through Jesus' teaching, the disciples have come to know that He is the Messiah, the anointed one of God. Not only do they know that fact, they have faith - that is, they have placed their trust for their life and future in His hands. They are committed.
People today need to hear and answer that question. What it amounts to is, "Do you really know Jesus, know who He is, know what He has done for you" and, as a result of that, "Have you placed your life - your hopes, aspirations, dreams, desires - in His hands?" Are you committed to Jesus no matter what?
True disciples are and they will follow Him anywhere, at any time.
