Luke 8:50 But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she will be well."
Staff from Jairus' house had just arrived to tell him that his daughter had died. Look at Jesus' response. He doesn't argue or deny the report, He just speaks directly to Jairus, saying two things. Firstly, "Do not fear!" How often when we hear bad news do we freeze in fear, wondering why this happened to us andnot knowing what to do about it. Faith in Messiah cuts through this paralysis, allowing us to understand that whatever happens, Jesus knows all about it already and is with us to overcome the situation in His strength.
Secondly, He tells Jairus that all he needs to do it have faith. Nothing more and nothing less. No actual action is required of him; he is simply to trust G-d and his daughter will be well. The same applies to us. When tragedy strikes, we must resist the impulse to run around like a chicken with its head cut off, but must instead exercise faith and believe that G-d has it all under control. Which He does, by the way. Then we will get further instructions as to what we should actually do.
