Luke 17:28-30

Luke 17:28-30 Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot -- they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulphur rained from heaven and destroyed them all -- so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Life will just be going on in the way it always does go on. It is not that any of these activities are bad in themselves. It is necessary to eat and drink, to trade, to farm - Jesus isn't critising the actions. He is pointing out that life will be going just exactly as usual when He returns. The world won't be ready because it isn't expecting anything to happen. Jesus warns His followers, on the other hand, to be aware of the times and seasons and - always, in every place, at any time - to be ready for His return.

There is a difference between expecting something to happen and being ready for it to happen. Expectance is a state of mind and is dependent, no matter how flimsy the evidence, on having a reason to anticipate something happening soon. Being ready - even in the face of no evidence - is simply a matter of having taken the appropriate precautions, such as packing an overnight bag and just keeping it ready, in case you get called into hospital, for example - with a friend or relative who needs your support.

We don't expect Jesus back tomorrow, because there is no particular evidence to suggest that He will be, but we need to be ready to just pick up and go if He does come. Are you ready?

A poignant reminder of the time we are living in points to the return of our Messiah. We MUST be ready for that split second time of His arrival. No man knows the time of this event.

I am ready...

What about you?
