Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.
Isaiah doesn't want anyone to miss the point. There are four actions taking place here: wounding, crushing, chastisement, stripes - beating. These things all happened to Jesus because of us. Because of our sin and our sickness. Isaiah even uses two words for sin: transgressions, which means those times we stepped over the line and did something wrong; and iniquities, which means those times when we not only did something wrong but pretended we didn't do it, or tried to pretend that it wasn't wrong. Our healing, our restoration, our reconciliation with God, our restoration to peace, came at His expense.
