John 4:22

John 4:22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

At first this may sound discouraging, as Jesus carries on talking to the woman at the well in Sychar. Do we worship someone of something we don't know? Are we 'you' or 'we' in these words?

Jesus has brought us near, He has shown us the Father and invited us into a living relationship with Him. Jesus is a Jew, so salvation has come from and through Him. We need to understand His Jewish context and way of seeing things so that we can look at our world with His eyes.

Other people, who do not know Jesus, are worshiping goodness knows what: their own idols, the gods of this age, whatever. They don't know them, they have no relationship with them, for there is no relationship to be had. But Jesus invites them to join Him in worshiping the True God, the One and Only God.

Who are you worshiping?
