Lamentations 3:20-21 My soul continually remembers my affliction and is bowed down within me. But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
The prophet laments the downfall of Jerusalem, the holy city being overthrown and desecreated by the (pagan and polytheistic) Babylonians. He can't forget what has happened to the city and his people; his spirit is depressed and brought low by the daily remembrance and experience of the tragedy.
But he remembers God's mercy and grace (to come in the next verse, tomorrow) and this gives him hope. Although everything around is black, there is a speck of light and this gives him hope.
Are you in a low place right now? Reach out to God and ask Him to show you His mercy and grace for today.
