Proverbs 6:12-14 A worthless person, a wicked man, goes about with crooked speech, winks with his eyes, signals with his feet, points with his finger, with perverted heart devises evil, continually sowing discord.
Do you know anyone like that? Does someone in your family, your neighbourhood or your work team behave like that? The text identifies the behaviour of such people so that we can see and recognise them. Without these characteristic signs,we might not - particularly at first - recognise the worth of a person or the state of his heart.
Matthew 7:15-1 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Jesus tells us the same thing: we will recognise the wolves, the false prophets, by their fruit: by the way they behave and speak, by the little mannerisms that betray their inner tension and state.
Heaven forfend that this should be describing you, but keep an eye open for such people and pray for them: for conviction, repentance and healing as they come to faith in Jesus.
