John 7:16 Jesus answered them, "My teaching is not mine, but His who sent me.
A lot of people don't understand this. Jesus is not an innovator, coming up with new and exciting teaching of His own. Jesus only says what the Father says; He only does what He sees the Father doing. Essentially, though more detail is given, everything that Jesus says has already been said in the pages of the Hebrew Scriptures. Although He seems to bring corrections, this was not to the original, but to the current implementations which had strayed from or not understood the original.
Jesus is not blowing His own trumpet and saying "Follow Me!" to the exclusion of all else. He is encouraging people to follow the One who sent Him - Father God - by following Him. At every turn, He points to God and gives glory to God. As Jesus' followers and disciples, we should do no less.
