John 7:17

John 7:17 If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on My own authority.

And the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Jesus makes it very clear, if someone is truly seeking God, wanting to know and to please Him, to be in a meaningful relationship with Him, then Jesus' teaching will exactly fit. This is the proof of authenticity that Jesus offers: if you are not serious about God, then you will have trouble with Jesus' teaching (because it comes from God); but if you are genuinely walking with God, then you will know, by the witness of God's Spirit, that what Jesus says is what God says.

That does rather put it on the line, doesn't it! Now you have to make a choice. If you reject Jesus, then you also reject God. If you embrace and follow Jesus, then you are embracing and following God. Which is it to be?
