Exodus 1:7 But the people of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly; they multiplied and grew exceedingly strong, so that the land was filled with them.
This text describes the people of Israel when they were in Egypt. The 'but' contrasts the then 'now' with just before, when Joseph was alive and serving Pharaoh as Grand Vizier of Egypt. Even though they no longer had his protection and the whole generation that came to Egypt had all died, nevertheless the people rgew dramatically. We should notice the use of 'creation' language here. In the creation account, God blessed mankind and told them:
Genesis 1:2 Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth
By using that language, the narrator is telling is that Israel is fulfilling that mandate. God is creating them as a people, rather than a family and, even though they were in Egypt rather than in the Land, they were prospering under His hand.
From this we can learn that when we are where God has put us and submit ti His authority and plans for us, we will prosper and multiply. Where are you today?
